I wanted to be a police officer when I was a little kid. My grandpa and my dad were police officers so I wanted to be one as well. I went to college and study about law enforcement and that made my decision even easier. I really like police work. It is very exciting. You never know what you will be doing from one minute to another. One minute you might be taking a report about someone stealing something, and the next minute you are in a high speed car chase. If you like excitement, and helping and talking with people then being a police officer might be a job you want to consider

Chance, I decided to try being a police officer when I was about 27 years old, after having done several other things for a career. I like being a police office better then anything else I have done so far. I've been a cop for about 12 years. Being a police officer makes me feel good becasue sometimes I get to help people when they really need it the most.
I use a lot of math skills in my job. The most important thing fractions and other math problems have taught me is how to use a set of rules to solve problems. Practacing math skills can help a person develop good decision making skills, this is a big deal for police officers. Also addition, fractions, subtraction, and percentages are all skills we use everyday. When we investigate crimes involving the theft of property or money, using math to determine the value of the loss is very important. Math skills also make it easier to understand documents we have to look at such as bills, reciepts, and other financial documents. Math is like Karate for the brain. The better you are with math and the more you practice the smarter you'll be.
