Hi, my name is Anastasia. How do you use fractions as a designer?
Tori & Anastatia,
Decorators and designers use fractions, decimals, and percents everyday. When we need to cut fabric or make patterns, we must use measurements in decimals or fractions. We figure our profits in percentages. The company I work for gets a percentage of the profit I make. I also must figure the cost of my materials as percentage to calculate my earnings. I hope this helps!
Clint,
Photographers use decimals everyday...from the measurements of our lenses to the solution we use to develop our proofs. Most every chemical used in th "old fashioned" way of developing pictures are measured with the metric stystem. The lenses on our cameras are measure in mm....and it is very important to know which strength is needed! Percentages and fractions are also calculated regularly when findng the exact lighting and depth in a picture. I also need to be able to calculate percentages to find my profit after selling a picture! i hope this helps.
Tarik,
Animators need to use percentages when calculating the amount of money they get paid for a cartoon. I also have to find out what percentage my materials take from my profit. The art supplies I use are all measured in decimals. For example, I will use a .02 mm pencil if I want a small line, or a .78 lead if I need a bigger one. I hope this answers your question!
Kjersten,
Dancing can not happen without music. And music can not happen without fractions. Scores of music are separated within fractional parts. My choreography revolves around the fractional parts of the music. When I use timing in rountines, it is important to show time in decimals. I hope this helps and good luck!
